Origin, Heritage & Craft Tradition
Originating in 1980 with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico, California, American Pale Ale was a radical modern reboot of classic English pale ales. By swapping traditional earthy English hops for high-myrcene American Cascade hops, Ken Grossman initiated the worldwide craft brewing movement. It remains the gold standard for testing a brewer's hop and malt balance.
